U. S. News & World Report ranked Lancaster General Hospital nationally as one of the best hospitals for 2015-16 in in three specialties: Diabetes & Endocrinology (ranked #44); Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (ranked #45); Orthopedics (ranked #39); and ranked fifth in the state of Pennsylvania. The hospital attained high-performance rankings in the following specialties: Geriatrics; Nephrology; Neurology & Neurosurgery; and Pulmonology.
Highest “Leapfrog” Hospital Safety Score 2016
Lancaster General Hospital has earned an “A” grade in Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Score. The score which is the gold standard for patient safety rates how well hospitals protect patients from preventable medical errors, injuries and infections. Administered by The Leapfrog Group, a national, nonprofit hospital safety watchdog, the score helps patients and families who are facing a hospital stay to easily identify a safe place to receive care.
HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award for Electronic Medical Records Use
Lancaster General Hospital attained the acute care Stage 7 award for an advanced patient record environment from Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics. Stage 7 is the highest level on the Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model℠ (EMRAM), which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems. Stage 7 hospitals operate in a paperless environment and represent best practices in implementing EMR.
Lancaster General Hospital attained four-year Magnet® recognition for the third time in 2011 as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. This voluntary credentialing program for hospitals recognizes excellence in nursing and is the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice.
Lancaster General Hospital is recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) with VPP (Voluntary Protection Programs) Star Status. This is the second time LGH received this designation which recognizes employers who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries.
Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks
Lancaster General Health ranked 53rd in the 2012 Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks, improving over the previous year's 75th place ranking. On a more local level, the health system placed seventh in the northeast region. This improvement is due in part to LG Health's investment in EPIC and its plan to participate in bundled payments.
Security Magazine listed LG Health among the top 500 security departments in the country and 28th in the healthcare sector for its best-managed security practices.
