Lancaster General Health Leadership
A Message to the Community - For more than 110 years, we have had a proud heritage of responding to the community’s health needs, which are as diverse as the people we help. Our mission, to advance the health and well-being of the communities we serve, and our Vision to create an extraordinary experience…every time, serve as our foundation, laying the groundwork for our purpose, goals and ideals.
Building Healthier Communities Together - Building a healthy community, one life at a time, is how we can achieve our mission to advance the health and well-being of the communities we serve. To that end, Lancaster General Health actively seeks diverse community partners that share our compassion, and passion, to provide education and care for the medically underserved.
Domestic Violence: A Public Health Concern - Over the past several years we have achieved success in raising awareness of one of our community’s highest health priorities — reducing domestic violence. We have established a sustainable long-term process by educating a significant number of healthcare providers and employees, and implemented a method for screenings and referrals. While we will continue to focus on and monitor our efforts in this area, other health priorities will be identified as we move forward to meet the growing challenges in our community.
Our Commitment to Community – While we are fortunate to live in an area that continues to prosper and grow, there are still many unmet needs and many people who cannot easily access healthcare for a number of reasons; whether from lack of health insurance or lack of financial resources. Lancaster General Health places the highest priority on recognizing our community’s health needs and partnering with groups to reach all people — young and old, sick and well — in their workplaces, homes, schools, faith communities, multi-cultural organizations and physician offices.
Access to Health Care – Access to healthcare is essential in keeping communities healthy. That’s why Lancaster General Health is committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, receives the care they need.
Reducing Obesity - On the rise both nationally and here in Lancaster County, obesity continues to be a major health concern linked to several serious medical conditions. Among them: heart disease and stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and some cancers. Our Healthy Weight Management initiatives include community outreach through the Lighten Up Lancaster Coalition and programs such as LEARN for adults and Shape-Down for children.
Reducing Tabacco Use - The facts are clear. Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, causing many diseases and affecting the health of smokers in general. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 400,000 deaths per year are attributed to tobacco use. Lancaster General Health, along with the Tobacco-Free Coalition of Lancaster County and other participating community programs, offers individual counseling and group sessions to help all community members, adults and youth, quit smoking.
Supporting Our Community’s Health and Financial Needs – Because building a healthy community extends beyond providing healthcare, we support local governments, school districts and community improvement initiatives in addition to caring for those who are medically underserved.
