Thank you for your interest in Lancaster General Health’s High School Student Volunteer Program. We are proud to offer a volunteer program for students since 2005.
The program is designed to offer students an opportunity to explore healthcare careers, gain leadership and job skills, and see an overview of the daily operations of the hospital. You will work side-by-side with a Lancaster General Health clinical staff member who will mentor you throughout the program.
During the Student Volunteer Program, you will learn about many healthcare careers in areas such as:
- Cardiology
- Emergency Medicine
- Endoscopy
- Labor & Deliver

Student Requirements
High school juniors and seniors with a sincere interest in healthcare are encouraged to apply. Our Student Volunteer Program is offered twice a year.
The Summer session will begin June 4, 2012 and will end August 24, 2012. Students must submit the following to the Volunteer Services Department:
- Completed Student Volunteer Program application
- Copy of recent high school transcripts to support the educational requirements of the selected healthcare career
- Completion of a one page essay which explains your interest in pursuing a career in the healthcare profession
- Letter of recommendation from a healthcare professional or your high school guidance counselor that speaks of your ability and dedication to serving others
- Signed parental consent on application
- Commitment to volunteer at least 50 hours throughout the program

Note: The application deadline for the summer session has passed.
Acceptance into the Program
You will be notified if you are accepted into the Student Volunteer Program. Once accepted you will receive an informational acceptance letter and medical testing consent form. You will be asked to:
- Provide documentation of record of immunization and/or complete medical testing at our facility including blood titers, drug screening, and 2 step Tuberculosis test
- Sign release allowing LGH to request a background check if 18 years or older
- Participate in a mandatory 3 ½ hour Volunteer Orientation scheduled for May 24, 2012 from 4 - 7:30 p.m.
- Purchase a uniform from Volunteer Services
- Sign an agreement to volunteer at least 50 hours
Completing the Program
At the end of the program, you will be required to report your volunteer hours and complete an evaluation documenting your experience. Once submitted, you will receive:
- A certificate of completion
- A written evaluation of your performance that will be shared with your high school guidance counselor
- An opportunity to continue as a volunteer with Lancaster General under our general volunteer program
A complimentary $500 scholarship to Lancaster General College of Nursing and Health Sciences is available to students who satisfactorily complete the High School Student Volunteer Program.
