What happens after I apply?

Once we receive your application and 2 completed references, they will be reviewed to determine eligibility. If initial qualifications are met, we will contact you for a pre-interview to discuss your skills, interests, previous volunteer experience, and our current openings.

If you are selected to volunteer in one of our programs, you will be asked to:

  • Attend a volunteer orientation meeting to introduce you to volunteering in a healthcare environment. These meetings are held once a month and last approximately 2 hours. You will learn in detail about the requirements for volunteering at LGH, our history, policies including Fire Safety, Patient Confidentiality, and Infection Control and our Mission, Vision, Values, and Every time behaviors.
  • Provide documentation of 2 MMR’s (Rubella, Rubeola & Mumps) and 2 Varicella (chicken pox) vaccinations. If you are unable to provide records, you will be asked to get a blood test at no cost to check for immunization.
  • Complete a drug, and nicotine screening. If tested positive, you will be ineligible to volunteer.
  • Complete a  Background Check
  • Complete a 2-step TB test
  • Receive an annual flu shot
  • Participate in a placement interview with our Volunteer Coordinator
  • Purchase a $10 volunteer uniform if required

Please note that the tests and background check listed above are done at no cost to the volunteer.

If you are selected in a program at  Women and Babies Hospital or  Pediatrics you will be required to supply Act 33 Clearance (child abuse) and Act 73 Clearance (FBI fingerprint) at the volunteers expense.
