Dr. Paul Casale is the Medical Director of Cardiology at Lancaster General Health and a cardiologist with The Heart Group in Lancaster.

He is a clinical research investigator at The Lancaster Heart & Stroke Foundation and has participated in many new pioneering treatments for heart disease. He has published more than 100 reports, articles and abstracts. Dr. Casale is currently a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine.

A recent study found that people who drank a diet soda a day had an increased risk of heart attack and stroke compared to people who didn't consume diet drinks at all. But even the study authors say you don't have to give up your favorite diet beverage—yet.

A recent analysis of 11 clinical trials of calcium supplementation to treat osteoporosis found a link between the supplements and heart attack risk. But experts seem to agree that a lot more research is needed to determine if calcium supplements can cause heart attacks.

The survival rate for patients who suffer a heart attack and are treated at Lancaster General Hospital with balloon angioplasty or stent is 98%. Unfortunately, too many people delay coming to the hospital… sometimes with devastating results.
