LIVING IN YORK. DELIVERING AT WOMEN & BABIES
I live in York, and, for a variety of reasons was dissatisfied with my OB practice. I had a friend who delivered at Women & Babies and she raved about the care. I wanted to find a practice that delivered at Women and Babies, so I chose May Grant Associates.
Once I made the switch, I knew I had made the right choice. Having a baby is a life changing experience and you want to make sure you are cared for at a hospital that has the best of everything--doctors, nurses, midwives anesthesiologists--and a top-notch NICU should you need it.
IN TUNE WITH MY NEEDS
What made the birth experience at Women & Babies stand out? Everyone who cared for me catered to my needs and those of my husband as well. Everything was focused on the family. Dad was involved.
I envisioned in my mind how things should be handled -- the classes, tests, pre-natal visits, birth plan, the birth itself and follow up care – and it was all done first class at Women & Babies. They were really in tune with my needs.
A BIG BABY
As I progressed in my pregnancy I was measuring very big. In my mind I was full term at 30 weeks! At 38 weeks, I came in for an induction, but Nicholas wasn’t quite ready.
That last week the nurses were all there and we shared lots of stories and laughs. It was like having your best friends with you.
And when the big day came, they were all coaching and cheering with the midwives. Nicholas was born weighing 9 pounds, 9 ounces and was 22 inches—a big baby! It’s a day I’ll never forget.
A TOTAL TEAM APPROACH
The doctors at Women & Babies were exceptional. I had total confidence in them. they respected my opinions, listened to my questions and in general, just put me at ease. This made the whole experience very comforting – which is definitely what you want when you are about to have a baby!
Also I can’t say enough about the midwives at May Grant Associates. They cared for me as if I was the only one in their practice. The plan had been for me to have a natural childbirth, but with the size of Nicholas and his positioning, it turned out I needed an epidural. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Valerie Salmons, was fabulous. She was very calming during a very intense time for me.
IN THE NICHOLAS OF TIME
Nicholas is six months-old and he’s so much fun to be around. He is very inquisitive, and people-oriented. I was concerned about his development, but he’s doing really well.
We’ve totally bonded and I carry him everywhere. He loves to be around people and is always responding by turning and looking and reacting to their voices.
WHY WOMEN FROM YORK TRAVEL TO LANCASTER
I’ve recommended Women & Babies to other women I know in York. They all want the details about my experience and I tell them how incredible it was and how impressed I was with the entire Lancaster General Health System.
I go to Lancaster Pediatrics now and they are both knowledgeable and accommodating. It’s about a half-hour drive, but I wouldn’t go anyplace else.
