James & Sally Saxton Chaplaincy Fellowship in Oncology

"How would you improve the spiritual care offered to cancer patients and their families if money was not an issue?" was a rare invitation to dream.
At the heart of this question is the recognition that spirituality is a core aspect of people’s lives that is often taxed in unique ways when confronted with cancer. The opportunity to dream started the journey toward the development of the James & Sally Saxton Chaplaincy Fellowship in Oncology.

While a primary goal was improving the spiritual care at the Lancaster General Health Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, a comprehensive center for outpatient oncology care, we also wanted to spread the impact of the Saxton gift by educating chaplains who will take the benefits of this experience to improve cancer care in their communities.
The Fellowship is an opportunity for a board-certified chaplain or chaplain eligible for board certification to engage in a year of immersion into the full spectrum of oncology care, become conversant with research relevant to oncology chaplaincy and cultivate professional leadership skills. Following the Fellowship, the graduates will enhance the oncology care in their own communities.
If you have passion for those whose lives are impacted by cancer, commitment to professional growth and determination to be a change agent within the healthcare delivery system, then I invite you to apply for this unique opportunity.
