Oncology Chaplaincy Fellowship

Fellowship Description

The James & Sally Saxton Chaplaincy Fellowship in Oncology at Lancaster General Health is an opportunity for a board certified or certification eligible chaplain to advance their practice. The key focus will be developing a specialization in oncology care in a primarily out-patient setting, and refining leadership skills in a dynamic interdisciplinary environment.

This two-year advanced practice specialization will start on August 29, 2018, and end in mid-September, which provides an overlap with the next Fellow. The second year is dependent upon satisfactory work in the first year and is intended to provide time for quality improvement or research projects.

Educational Resources

  • As an ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education Center, LG Health has a strong history of developing chaplains. The CPE supervisor will direct this fellowship program, drawing on the action-reflection model of education, even though this is not a CPE program.
  • As an academic partner with University of Penn, multidisciplinary video conferences and educational resources will be utilized.
  • Hospice and Community Care provides expertise in palliative care and end-of-life care, with educational events such as Friday Focus Lectures and Annual National Hospice Foundation bereavement webinar, and resources such as the Pathways Center for Grief and Loss.
  • Leadership development resources include Harvard Manage Mentor and other leadership training opportunities through Lancaster General Health.
  • Conferences and rounds with the Lancaster General Health Family Practice Residency Program will enhance the medical understanding as well as build connections with the physician community.
  • Attendance of at least one national conference or workshop will be encouraged and financially supported.
