Student Externship

Each summer, Lancaster General Health offers an eight week Student Externship Program which is designed to enable students to approach their professional nursing career with increased confidence.

Students work with our professional nurses in two different clinical sites.  Opportunities to observe and perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and assist a Registered Nurse with advanced procedures are enhancements to a student’s own clinical experiences.

A Nursing Educator is available to mentor student externs and orientation to Lancaster General Health is provided.  In addition, formal education opportunities and interactive sessions introduce a variety of topics essential to fulfillment of the Nurse Externship role.

The extern position is typically posted on our Career Website in late Fall and applications are accepted only during the time period that the extern position is posted.  Eligibility requirements are included in the job posting.
