Nursing at Lancaster General Health is supported and enhanced by many different technologies.
We use stationary and wireless PCs for tasks such as order communication, result retrieval, bar-coded medication administration, electronic medical records, bed management, email, staffing and self-scheduling, safety and regulatory training, and patient education.
Medications are obtained from an automated dispensing device. Wireless telephone use improves staff efficiency and communication. Telemetry nurses carry beepers which alert them to arrhythmias and allow them to view and interpret the rhythm without leaving the patient’s bedside.
Technological innovations have the ability to enhance patient safety, improve workflow efficiency, and promote staff communication. Lancaster General Health has successfully implemented technological innovations that have provided these benefits.
We are functioning on a comprehensive electronic health record across the continum of the patient's care through Lancaster General. Our newest endeavor is developing and designing a new technology advanced patient tower. We are integrating our frontline nurses in the development of this new tower to hopefully integrate new technology to help support workflows and promote optimum patient care.
