Research Institute

Welcome From Our Director

As Director for the Lancaster General Research Institute, I welcome you to our web site. The Research Institute was founded in 2004 and exists to support research across Lancaster General Health. We primarily focus on supporting research study design, statistical analyses and data management/collection for physicians, nurses and other allied health professionals. As a community health system, we have a unique opportunity to conduct epidemiologic, health systems and outcomes research to answer questions that can directly benefit the communities we serve. Please take a moment to review our web site to learn more about our work. We look forward to working with you on research projects of interest in your area of expertise.

-Michael Horst, PhD

Overview

The Lancaster General Research Institute exists to provide research support to all Lancaster General Health (LGH) entities. Through the expertise of various members within the Institute, LGH physicians and staff are supported with various research related activities. Research conducted focuses on treatment, diagnostic and procedural efficacy in the general hospital and affiliated specialty areas. The Institute also works in conjunction with the Family Medicine Residency Program to provide research opportunities for the advancement of medical education.

Due to a generous endowment to support research, the Louise von Hess Medical Research Institute has been formed under the administration of the Lancaster General Research Institute. This endowment has been specified to support research involving physicians, learning, and community benefit. The branches of the Louise von Hess Research Institute include Family and Community Medicine, Lancaster General Medical Group (LGMG), Community Health & Wellness and Lancaster General Hospital Clinical Lines.

In addition to supporting physician related research, the Institute also provides consultation and analysis support for projects initiated by the Nursing Department, Lancaster General Allied Health Entities and the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences.
