Clinical Integration: a drive towards quality and efficiency at LGH
11/15/2011 – In an effort to align the Medical and Dental Staff and Lancaster General Health to provide quality care efficiently at a reasonable cost, LG Health is actively pursuing a Clinical Integration initiative. The many- faceted strategy consists of several programs, some originating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and others developed in-house.  Read more


New sepsis protocol shows reduced mortality rates in LG Health pilot
10/19/2011 – A new protocol for patients with severe sepsis and septic shock (SS/SS) reduced patients' mortality rate to 12.9%, in a FY2011 LG Health pilot study. That compared favorably to a 28.1% mortality rate in the control group.  Read more


Assessment and order set for delirium
10/19/2011 – You may be surprised to learn the prevalence of delirium in hospitalized patients, occurring in 20% of hospitalized patients age 65 and older.  The incidence is even higher after a surgery and highest after hip fracture surgery, occurring in 35-65% of patients.  The highest incidence of 70-80% is in elderly ICU patients.  Read more


Comprehensive Clinical Documentation Improvement
6/8/2011 – With the help of J.A. Thomas & Associates, Lancaster General Health initiated a comprehensive clinical documentation improvement program over the last year. This program was designed to better reflect severity of illness, more accurately code primary and secondary diagnosis, identify conditions present on admission and engage the hospital physicians with case management.  Read more


FRAX and treatment guidelines
2/13/2011 – Fracture Risk Assessment Tool (FRAX), developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) is to evaluate fracture risk of patients and to assist with treatment decisions.  Read more
