Jan Bergen welcomes 2018
1/10/2018

From Jan Bergen, President & CEO

Lancaster General Health has many reasons to celebrate in 2018.

This year we will mark a very special time in our history by celebrating the 125th anniversary of Lancaster General Hospital. As we commemorate 125 years of serving the Lancaster community, we will continue the traditions started by our forefathers so many years ago.

At the same time, we will look ahead to several significant new milestones on the horizon. Our continuing efforts to meet our community’s health-care needs well into the future will include ensuring private rooms for our inpatients, as well as readily available access to critical ambulatory services.

Lancaster General Hospital first opened its doors in 1893, in a three-story brick home on North Queen Street. The hospital moved to the 500 block of North Lime Street in 1903, then expanded to Duke Street and beyond since then.

Now, 125 years after its initial opening, LGH is once again expanding. This spring, we will open the state-of-the-art Frederick Building, which will enable us to provide our patients with private rooms, as well as the latest technology.

Our future plans for the Frederick Building include a new Pediatric Inpatient Center. The new 16-bed unit, which is in the planning stages, will elevate pediatric care available in our community by providing a healing environment that is truly child- and family-centered.

This summer, we will open the Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital, a 126-bed facility that will greatly enhance access to a wide range of critical behavioral health services. I am very excited to bring these much-needed services to our community.

Also in 2018, we will continue to increase access to our LG Health Physicians network of primary- and specialty-care providers, and ambulatory services. Our plans include an expansion of our Kissel Hill outpatient center in Lititz.

In the coming months, I will share more details on the exciting events we have planned to celebrate our 125th anniversary. And I will continue to keep you updated on the many milestones ahead for 2018.

LG Health has proudly served our community for 125 years. And we will continue that commitment for many, many years to come.

Happy New Year!
