Temporary building could provide additional capacity for busy Emergency Department
2/3/2018

Lancaster General Hospital is exploring the feasibility of using a temporary building to provide additional capacity for its busy Emergency Department. LG Health is requesting Lancaster City and state Department of Health approvals for a possible 2,500 square-foot structure for up to nine additional ED beds and a nurses’ station.

The hospital’s Emergency Department, which was last renovated and expanded in 2003-04, is designed for 85,000 annual visits. The department is on pace to see 117,000 visits this fiscal year.

Planning for a temporary building, which would enhance the experience for our patients and staff, is in its very early stages. If approved, the building could be in use by this summer. The structure would be used for three to five years and connect directly to the ED, on the north side of the hospital. It would rest on the ramp currently used by EMS units to drop off patients; an updated traffic plan for EMS units would be required.

The temporary structure would give LG Health time to plan for possible future expansion of Emergency Department services at LGH.

LG Health expands online scheduling options

Lancaster General Health has expanded online scheduling options for patient appointments.

New and existing patients may visit LGHealth.org/schedule to schedule an appointment with select primary-care providers and specialists, as well as urgent care, lab tests and mammograms. Patients may view available appointment times – including same-day appointments – and schedule instantly. Online scheduling is available 24 hours a day via mobile devices, tablets and computers.

“Our expanded online scheduling options make it easier than ever for patients to make an appointment with an LG Health provider,” said Rich Paoletti, Vice President, Primary Care and Ambulatory Network. “Online scheduling offers a convenient option that saves valuable time for our patients.”

LG Health also has launched a partnership with tech company Zocdoc to offer patients another convenient online option for scheduling appointments. In addition to online scheduling, patients can find, review and compare LG Health providers at Zocdoc.com or by using the Zocdoc app.
