Philip M. Bayliss, M.D., received The Edward Hand Award at the Lancaster City & County Medical Society’s annual dinner meeting, held June 13, at Lancaster Country Club.

The award, named in honor of the noted local physician, politician and veteran of the American Revolution, honors outstanding work in the health-care field.

Dr. Bayliss, who practices at LG Health Physicians Maternal-Fetal Medicine and teaches with the Lancaster General Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program, was nominated for his “unwavering commitment” to the local medical community.

“He has pioneered the care for high-risk obstetrical patients throughout the county … and continues to provide seamless, consistent, heartfelt care to the patients he serves,” according to the nomination.

Dr. Bayliss, whose son was diagnosed with and successfully treated for cancer in 2010, co-founded Bike Towards a Cure, an annual bike ride that raises money to benefit cancer patients and their families.
