Brain Injury Program

The Brain Injury Program at Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital is specially designed to address the unique recovery needs of brain injury survivors. Recovery from brain injury occurs in phases. Each patient progresses through the phases at their own pace and order. Typically, brain injury patients must deal with memory impairments, disorientation, swallowing/eating impairments, changes in behavior and mood, weakness, balance and coordination. Creating a secure environment is important as many patients lack the judgment to safely negotiate their environment as they recover.

The environment is structured and treatment is focused on providing consistency and repetition in daily routines and activities. Orientation and memory strategies are a key initiative with progress towards higher level skills in problem solving and judgment.

Each patient is assisted in establishing and achieving personal recovery goals.
