Insomnia

Sufficient sleep is important for maintaining health. Insomnia - difficulty falling asleep or waking and not being able to get back to sleep - can have many causes. Illness, some medications, caffeine and noise can all disturb your sleep patterns. So can stress or anxiety. We work with you to determine the cause of your insomnia and help you make any changes necessary so that you can consistently get a good night’s sleep. We will review your lifestyle and identify any habits - like eating in the evening or watching TV in bed - that might be interfering with your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep. We can also teach you to recognize signs of stress in your body, such as shallow breathing or tight muscles, and show you techniques that can help you relax and reduce stress. Individuals with persistent insomnia may be considered for and benefit from participation in our eight week Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Program.
