Surgery for Pre-Malignant and Malignant Tumors
We offer surgery to remove fibroids and pre-cancerous and cancerous tumors. We use open abdominal surgery or, when appropriate, minimally invasive laparoscopy or da Vinci® robotic-assisted surgery. We perform all da Vinci® gynecological procedures at Women & Babies Hospital, the area’s only specialty hospital for women. The surgical options available to you will depend on the type of cancer and whether it has spread. We will answer your questions and help you make an informed decision about any necessary surgical treatment.
Early-stage cancers
Many early-stage women’s reproductive cancers may be treated with surgery alone, and women with less advanced cancers may benefit from minimally invasive procedures.
Debulking for large tumors
For women with advanced cancers, we perform a procedure called debulking or cytoreduction. Reducing the tumor size to less than 1 centimeter - less than half an inch - has been shown to increase survival rates by up to 25 percent.
