Maternity Care

Your family physician provides personalized care for your pregnancy, delivery and post-partum care along with an attending staff physician at Lancaster General Health Women & Babies Hospital. Additional consultations with an Obstetrician-Gynecologist will be obtained if necessary. 

Registration for “Preparation for Childbirth” classes can be made through the Health Center. We also provide “Healthy Beginnings Plus” services on-site. Healthy Beginnings Plus is a Medical Assistance program that offers pregnant women services such as financial assistance, home visits, nutritional and childbirth education.

Social Worker

Accessing human services agencies (community and government) can be confusing and, at times, frustrating. Our Social Worker can help you locate and connect with human services resources such as:

  • medical transportation
  • referrals to counseling resources
  • aging services
  • services for child-related concerns
  • insurance questions
  • alcohol/substance abuse treatment.

There is no additional fee for this service. Please call our office to schedule an appointment.

Behavioral Medicine

Medical problems can create or compound stress and create other medical concerns.We offer the services of a licensed clinical Ph.D. psychologist who can help your physician assess and treat emotional and behavioral problems. The psychologist can also help you find additional counseling or psychiatric services.

House Calls

We will make house calls when necessary, such as for:

  • Handicapped individuals
  • Elderly
  • Situations where moving the patient is hazardous or not in their best interest

Please make office appointments when possible. The additional resources make examination and treatment more thorough in the office.

Hospital Care

All our physicians are credentialed employees of Lancaster General Hospital and will care for you during your hospitalization at Lancaster General Hospital.

If you prefer another area hospital, we cannot be directly involved in your care while you are hospitalized, but will make your admission arrangements.

Office Policies and Procedures

Appointments

Appointments may be scheduled by telephone during regular office hours.  Please be prepared to provide the following:

  • Brief description of the purpose of your appointment
  • Temperature (please take before calling)
  • Names of medications
  • Updated immunization records

Please notify the office in advance if you are unable to keep an appointment.

After Hours/Emergencies

When Downtown Family Medicine is closed, a physician is on emergency call.

  • Your call to us will be automatically forwarded to the Medical Bureau.
  • The operator will page physician on-call.
  • If you do not receive a call within 30 minutes, please place another call and alert the Medical Bureau that you have not been contacted.
  • If the physician on-call is unable to see you in our office, we will evaluate your medical concern in the Lancaster General Health Emergency Department.  Please identify yourself to the Emergency Department as a patient of the Lancaster General Health Family Health Services. They will contact the physician who will see you.
  • Remember that most managed care organizations require that you contact the physician on-call to authorize use of emergency room services.

Prescriptions

We recommend refilling prescriptions during regular office hours.


If you are calling the office to request a refill by phone, select the Prescription Refill Line and give the following information:

  • Patient’s full name
  • Date of birth
  • Name/Phone  Number & Pharmacy Location
  • Medication (exact spelling and dosage)
  • Special instructions
  • Phone number where we can contact you with questions

Your prescription will be called to your pharmacy within 3 business days.

Referrals

Please advise the staff at our office, prior to your appointment, if your insurance company requires pre-authorization and/or referral. Most insurance companies require 5-7 days for approval and authorization by their medical board. Without this approval/authorization, payment for your referral may be denied and charges for your visit or service could be your responsibility.

Charges & Insurance

A fee schedule for routine procedures and office visits is available. Please address concerns or questions with your physician or the billing coordinator.

Please have your insurance card available with updated billing information at each visit.

Your insurance company requires us to collect your co-payment at the time of your visit.  For your convenience, we accept MasterCard and Visa.
