(LANCASTER, PA, November 2012) Nikolas R. Buescher, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, has joined Lancaster General Health as Executive Director for the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. He will be responsible for the operation, development and implementation of LG Health’s comprehensive cancer services and programs.
Buescher comes to LG Health from Mountain States Health Alliance, a 13-hospital, non-profit health system serving northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia, where he served as vice president of Oncology since 2008. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Public Health and Economics from The Johns Hopkins University School of Arts and Sciences and his Masters of Health Science in Finance Health & Management from The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, where he was also recently named as the Outstanding Recent Alumni of 2011. Prior to his work at Mountain States he was director of Oncology at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, from 2005 to 2008.
As a member of the Penn Cancer Network, LG Health has access to the latest treatments, technologies, clinical trials program and research of the University of Pennsylvania’s Abramson Cancer Center in Philadelphia. In June 2013, LG Health will open the $44 million Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion on Harrisburg Pike. The two-story, 70,000 square-feet facility will bring advanced technology and integration of care by medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons and other cancer specialists together in one, centralized location with access to existing services, including the Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health.
