Lancaster General Hospital recognized for nursing excellence

7/27/2016 7:23:49 PM

Lancaster General Hospital (LGH) is proud to be a Magnet-recognized hospital.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® is the highest national honor for professional nursing practice. LGH achieved Magnet recognition for the fourth consecutive time in 2016, a testament to our continued commitment to delivering the highest quality of care to our community.

Magnet recognition -- the gold standard for nursing excellence -- distinguishes health-care organizations that meet rigorous standards. Just 441 of more than 6,300 U.S. hospitals have achieved Magnet recognition, which is effective for four years.

LGH is one of only 27 hospitals in Pennsylvania to attain Magnet recognition, and only the third Pennsylvania hospital to have achieved recognition four times.

Research shows that Magnet recognition offers many benefits to patients, staff and health systems, including positive impacts on care quality, patient experience and job satisfaction among nurses.

LGH’s repeated achievement of Magnet recognition reflects our foundation of excellence and the values that drive our entire staff to strive harder each day to meet the health-care needs of the people and communities we serve.

The Magnet Model provides a framework for nursing practice, research and measurement of outcomes. Through this framework, ANCC evaluates applicants across a number of components and dimensions to gauge nursing excellence.

The foundation of this model comprises various elements deemed essential to delivering superior patient care. These include the quality of nursing leadership, coordination and collaboration across specialties, as well as processes for measuring and improving the quality and delivery of care.
