American Heart Association, Lancaster General Health Install Bicycle Repair Station at Lancaster Amtrak Station

6/15/2017 8:06:10 AM

LG Health employees (l-r) Alice Yoder, Tim Zellers, and
Brenda Buescher celebrate with Lancaster Heart Walk
representative, Danielle Figueroa.

The American Heart Association and the Heart and Vascular Institute at Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine unveiled a new bicycle repair station today at the Lancaster Amtrak station. This is the third bicycle repair station to be installed in the city by the American Heart Association and the Heart & Vascular Institute at LG Health. The first two repair stations were installed at Binn’s Park and outside of the Central Market in 2016.

The new repair station is located on the west side of the Amtrak station building, in between a series of bicycle racks and the future site of a bike share station. The public bicycle repair stations include equipment to inflate tires, change bolts and other tools.

“The new bicycle repair station is a key location to link public transportation to Lancaster’s downtown,” said Tim Zellers, executive director of the Heart & Vascular Institute. “The bicycle repair station project is one way that we’re contributing to Lancaster’s Active Transportation Plan and setting an example for other communities that want to build a culture that encourages healthy activity.

A fourth bicycle repair station is planned along the WERT trail in Warwick Township later in the summer. The bicycle repair station projects are part of a collaboration between the American Heart Association and the Heart & Vascular Institute to encourage the people of Lancaster County to live healthier, more active lifestyles.

LG Health’s collaboration with the American Heart Association also includes serving as the platform sponsor of the Lancaster Heart Walk and Teaching Gardens for the students of Wickersham Elementary, VisionCorps, Hamilton Elementary, Lafayette Elementary, and Lancaster Mennonite New Danville campus.
