A comprehensive medical program provides the collaboration of a team of medical specialists focusing on breast health and the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The entire team collaborates with several professional specialists to provide comprehensive breast care:
Diagnostic Radiologists
Diagnostic radiologists help to locate and interpret suspicious growths within the body, its organs, and other internal structures using images taken with external radiation. Diagnostic radiology techniques include the use of x-ray tubes that emit radiation, radionuclides, ultrasonographic devices and radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation. Interventional radiologists can also help to obtain tissue samples using stereotactic and ultrasound guided biopsy techniques to determine the nature of a breast abnormality detected by a mammogram, ultrasound or MRI.
Radiation Oncologists
Radiation oncologists treat cancer and other diseases with radiation. Radiation in various forms is used to kill the cancer cells by preventing them from multiplying. Therapeutic radiation may be used to cure or control cancer, and to alleviate some of the symptoms associated with cancer.
Medical Oncologists
Medical oncologists are cancer specialists who provide overall treatment planning for breast cancer patients. Some patients may benefit from systemic therapy (please see page 4), which would be administered under the direction of a medical oncologist. This individualized plan of care is based on the type of cancer tumor, size, stage and lymph node status.
Surgeons
Our surgeons are known and respected for their expertise and experience. Our breast and plastic surgeons are skilled at incorporating leading-edge techniques for minimally invasive breast biopsies, breast conserving surgery, mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
Pathologists
Providing accurate, fast results is a hallmark of LG Health’s pathologists and laboratory technicians. These skilled professionals use their expertise and advanced technologies to diagnose disease and determine the stage of cancer—or how far the cancer has spread—a critical factor for determining the most appropriate treatment.
Clinical Professionals
In addition to medical doctors, your care team may include registered nurses, mammography/breast ultrasound technologists, dietitians, physical therapists and more. Each of these professionals has expertise in assisting individuals and will work to make your experience as supportive as possible.
