Hearing “You have cancer” is one of the most difficult experiences in a person’s life. The thoughts, feelings and questions you experience simultaneously can be overwhelming. With so much racing through your head, it can be hard to know the right questions to ask and where to turn for help.
Fortunately, Lancaster General Health offers nurse navigators to help you find your way through cancer diagnosis, treatment and beyond. Currently, nurse navigators are available for patients who have been diagnosed with breast and lung cancer. Nurse navigators assist by working with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate your cancer treatments and help to make sense of all that is going on.

Nurse navigators help you find the information to empower you to make informed treatment decisions and manage the side effects associated with treatment. Nurse navigators serve various roles for patients undergoing cancer treatment. They act as their cheerleaders when times are tough, motivators when life takes an unexpected turn, confidantes and trusted guides. Nurse navigators are the people who are by the patient’s side during every step of the journey.
