Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute
A new model of cancer care
A diagnosis of cancer can be overwhelming. Choosing the right place to receive care shouldn’t be. The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute brings together clinical experts, advanced technology, and a vast array of support services—all in environment designed to support the mind, body and spirit of patients and families.
Our distinctive, state-of-the-art facility offers access to a multispecialty network of caring and compassionate professionals working together to ensure the best possible outcomes. Conveniences such as centralized check-in kiosks and electronic medical records through MyLGHealth, streamline care and offer efficiencies to enhance care.
A member of Penn Medicine
As part of Penn Medicine, Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute experts work with teams at the Abramson Cancer Center, a world leader in cancer research, patient care, and education, to provide access to advanced diagnosis and treatment in Lancaster and Philadelphia.
In a first-of-its kind cancer breakthrough, the FDA recently approved Penn’s personalized cellular therapy for the treatment of childhood leukemia. Created in collaboration with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Kymriah™, also known as CAR-T, uses immunotherapy, to boost a patient’s own immune system and destroy cancer cells.
The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute’s expedited referral process links our cancer physicians to physicians at Abramson Cancer Center who will evaluate Lancaster adult patients for eligibility in CAR-T clinical trials. Pediatric patients cared for by Lancaster-Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia specialists are eligible for Kymriah as part of standard care. Because pediatric oncology services are not available at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, treatment would take place at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center City location.
An environment designed for healing
Inspired by cancer patients, survivors and families, the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute offers natural lighting, landscape views, and a beautiful collection of contemporary artwork. From the tranquil healing garden to the quiet meditation pavilion, every feature contributes to the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our patients.
National recognition sets us apart
Our oncology program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons (ACOS). Abramson Cancer Center has been designated a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute since 1973, one of only 41 in the country.
