Support Groups

Support Groups


Some people draw strength and encouragement from others who are facing similar challenges. Support groups are offered for patients with various diagnoses and may include guest speakers or medical experts.
 
Unless otherwise noted, the following support groups all meet in the Seraph Conference Room on the second floor of the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.

Brain Tumor Community Group

Meets the third Thursday of every month
12 - 1 pm
LG Health Wellness Center, Second Floor, Suburban Outpatient Pavilion, 2100 Harrisburg Pike


Provides support and education for anyone diagnosed with a brain tumor or has been affected by a loved one's experience with brain cancer. 

 

Breast Cancer Support Group

Meets the third Thursday of every month
6 - 7:30 pm
No meetings are held in July or December
 

This group provides support and education for the newly diagnosed breast cancer patient and up to five years after a breast cancer diagnosis. It is open to women of all ages and all stages of breast cancer. Most meetings will include an educational portion as well as open discussion, and are led by one of our Nurse Navigators or a social worker.  

 

Caring for the Caregiver:
Maintaining Wellness through the Cancer Journey

Classes held on the third Wednesday of each month
10 – 11:30 am
 

For family members and friends, 18 years and older, who provide physical and emotional care to their loved ones diagnosed with cancer. Sessions are facilitated by support staff from the Cancer Institute. Reservations are not required to attend. 



Leukemia, Lymphoma Support Group
Meets the first Tuesday of every month
6:30  -8:30 pm
 

For family and friends who have been touched by a diagnosis of leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, or myelodysplastic syndrome. Meetings provide support, education, and resources in an informal setting. Runs in collaboration with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. 

 

Living with Cancer

Living with Cancer, To Support You from Diagnosis to Survivorship

Prostate Support Group

Meets the second Tuesday of every month
6 - 7:30 pm  (Except July, August, and December)


Provides both emotional/social support time as well as education to assist participants with the challenges and concerns associated with the diagnosis of prostate cancer. 


 

Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer (SPOHNC)

Meets the fourth Tuesday of every other month starting in January
4 - 5 pm
 

SPOHNC hopes to provide information, support, and encouragement to a greater number of individuals, empowering them with the knowledge necessary to go forward. This group, facilitated by LG Health staff, provides a safe environment for those who are looking to meet other survivors for friendly conversation and open discussion about how cancer has impacted their lives.
