Nurse Navigation and Support

Any difficult journey is easier with a guide. That’s especially true of the journey through breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Our breast imaging nurses and nurse navigators are here to help you.

Lancaster General Health has been a long-time leader in nurse navigation for breast cancer. When you are facing a diagnosis of breast cancer, these specially focused nurses provide logistical, medical and emotional support.

Facilitating the diagnostic process

Our breast imaging nurses support patients who have a suspicious finding on their screening mammograms. Your breast imaging nurse will guide you through the diagnosis process. Your nurse navigator will:

  • Arrange follow-up appointments
  • Explain radiology tests and answer questions
  • Accompany you to additional breast imaging procedures
  • Administer sedation or provide support during biopsy procedures

Delivering support through treatment

If diagnostic results show that you have breast cancer, our nurse navigator will offer additional support. If you choose, your nurse navigator will stay at your side throughout the treatment process. Your nurse navigator can:

  • Coordinate appointments
  • Explain risks and benefits of treatment options
  • Advocate for you with the treatment team
  • Connect you with specialists, support groups and other resources
