Advanced Diagnostics for Lung Cancer

Accurate diagnosis and staging—or determining the spread of cancer —is critical for patients with lung cancer. We are committed to improving survival through a comprehensive program that includes early detection and leading-edge diagnostics. Our team understands the need for timely results, and we collaborate quickly for testing and consultation. Count on us for:

  • Technology. We offer state-of-the-art imaging and nonsurgical biopsy, or tissue sampling
  • Expertise. Board-certified radiologists read every image, scan or ultrasound, and highly skilled, board-certified pathologists determine the stage of cancer for treatment planning.
  • Excellence. Our cancer program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer.

Precise technologies for diagnosis and staging

Diagnosing lung cancer requires skill, precision and teamwork. Your clinical care team at LG Health/Penn Medicine includes diagnostic radiologists and pathologists with access to a full range of sophisticated diagnostic tools. These technologies provide valuable information to help the treatment team develop an individualized treatment plan:

  • Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)/Endobrachial Ultrasound (EBUS) allows physicians to sample lung tissue without incisions, scarring, or surgical risk. You return home the same day without the need for lengthy recovery that can delay treatment.
  • Computed Tomography (CT) offers highly detailed views of tissues and organs and aids in the early detection of lung cancer. It is also used with TomoTherapy® Hi•Art ® radiation treatment technology.
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is an unsurpassed diagnostic tool that helps physicians detect cancer, determine appropriate treatment, and track the body’s response to treatment.
  • X-ray, or radiograph, helps identify the presence of a tumor in the lung.
  • Bronchoscopy uses a thin tube to examine the airway and/or take tissue samples.
