Welcome to the Lancaster Heart & Vascular Institute
Since our surgeons performed the first open heart surgery in Lancaster County in 1983, Lancaster General Health has distinguished itself as a top provider of heart care in Pennsylvania. Our program has been recognized nationally by several organizations, including US News & World Report as a top 50 hospital for cardiology and heart surgery and by Hospital Compare as having one of the lowest re-admission rates in the country for patients who have suffered a heart attack.
The Lancaster Heart & Vascular Institute offers (LHVI) medical and surgical treatment for a wide variety of conditions including coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, valve conditions and others. Our clinicians perform more research, diagnostic services and open-heart procedures than any other health system in the region.
We’ve assembled the region’s top physicians, many of whom are nationally and internationally known, including cardiologists, vascular surgeons, cardiac surgeons, interventional radiologists and other specialists. Through these providers, patients can enter into clinical research trials, providing access to advanced therapies prior to release to the general public.
Advanced technology is a cornerstone of our programs at the LHVI. Our hybrid operating room enables us to perform complex cardiac procedures; such as TAVR, an innovative treatment for aortic stenosis. This, along with our use of the daVinci Surgical System, offers patients options for minimally invasive procedures that reduce treatment time and provide faster recovery.
We also offer a variety of prevention programs and educational events, as well web-based resources and interactive tools to support you in your journey towards optimum health.
