LG Health Physicians Cardiothoracic Surgery

Our Cardiothoracic Surgery practice provides comprehensive and progressive surgical care of the heart and vascular system only. (Another LG Health Physicians practice, Thoracic Surgery, specializes in treating diseases and injuries that affect the lungs, esophagus, and other organs and tissues in the chest, with the exception of the heart.)

Our tradition of pioneering surgeries and outstanding results began in September 1983, when Lawrence I. Bonchek, MD, and Mark W. Burlingame, MD, performed the first open-heart surgery in Lancaster County at Lancaster General Hospital.

Since that time, we have seen more than 20,000 patients through complex surgeries, recoveries, and appropriate courses of therapy. Our reputation for outstanding patient outcomes has consistently ranked us among the best programs in the country, and has earned us national and international recognition.

LG Health Physicians Cardiothoracic Surgery is a regional leader in developing new techniques and technologies, including TAVR, MitraClip, cardio ablation, complex mitral valve repair, congestive heart failure surgery, surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation, ventricular assist device therapy, and robotic surgery.
