Drive Safety Evaluation
Even a small change in vision, memory, reaction time or physical ability can lead to dangers on the road. If you are concerned about your own or a loved one’s ability to drive safety, LG Health offers a two-part driver safety assessment program that provides the information you need to make wise choices.
The first part of the program is an occupational therapy advanced life skills evaluation of:
Attention and concentration skills
Based on the results, the therapist may recommend that your doctor refer you for a behind-the-wheel evaluation to determine if you need special equipment or follow-up training. The assessment evaluates your ability to operate the vehicle controls, respond quickly and accurately, obey traffic laws, and recognize and understand road signs and regulations. You can take this test with any Pennsylvania-certified driver trainer at a driving school. We will provide contact information.
How to prepare
Allow one hour for the occupational therapy evaluation. Bring reading glasses to the appointment. The patient must be accompanied by a licensed driver. The behind-the-wheel evaluation requires a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit. A physician referral is necessary for both the occupational therapy assessment and the behind-the-wheel evaluation.
