Geriatric Fracture Program


The Geriatric Fracture Program at Lancaster General Health Orthopedic Center is the first of its kind in the region. Its purpose is to focus on improving patient outcomes and detect risk early to help curb the negative effects of geriatric bone fractures.


Did You Know?

  • More than 90% of hip fractures are in persons 65 or older.

  • Women have a 1 in 7 chance of having a hip fracture in their lifetime.

  • Men have a 1 in 17 chance of having a hip fracture in their lifetime.

The Geriatric Fracture Program provides a comprehensive approach to medical care and education for the patient and their family.


Benefits include:

  • Team approach: Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Department Staff, Nurses, Radiologists and Imaging Technicians, Hospitalists, Anesthesiologists, Orthopedic Surgeons and Specialists, Physiatrists, Physical Therapists and others

  • Enhanced pain management, reduction of medical complications and better outcomes through specialized fracture care

  • Streamlined admission process that gets patients into surgery faster after arriving to the Emergency Department

  • Screenings for osteoporosis and fall risk analysis

  • Education about bone health

  • Fall prevention including balance re-Training through Lancaster General Health Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

  • Osteoporosis evaluation and determination of need for related therapy by osteoporosis specialist(rheumatologist)
