Orthopedic Services

From managing medications and physical therapy to surgery, our orthopedic specialists work with you to provide the treatment that will restore your quality of life. Generally, our specialists recommend conservative courses of treatment first. These may include physical therapy, pain relievers, anti-inflammatory drugs, cortisone shots, splints or immobilization. If these non-surgical options are not effective, surgery may be necessary to help you return to an active lifestyle. In addition to total joint replacement surgery, our comprehensive range of orthopedic services features:

Sports medicine and injury management — focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries caused by athletic activity by patients of all ages. Many of these disorders can be treated non-surgically with medication, injections, splints, casts or physical therapy. When surgery is recommended it can often be performed arthroscopically — a minimally invasive procedure performed with a tiny camera and specialized instruments through a small incision.

Orthopedic oncology — treatment of bone and soft-tissue tumors including Ewing sarcoma, osteosarcoma and other cancers that involve the musculoskeletal system. Fracture management — Fractures are breaks in the bone often caused by a blow or a fall. They may be treated with splints, casting or surgery, depending upon the complexity of the fracture. We also use leading-edge techniques, including regenerating bone, when possible.

Moving together – complete joint care Injury and disease may affect specific joints within the body. Our experienced team can work with you to treat and manage your condition or injury to restore your quality of life. Besides fractures and dislocations, common joint problems include:

  • Knee

    • When knee cartilage is damaged or worn away, the underlying bones rub together, causing pain and inflammation — also known as arthritis. Other common knee problems include injury to the meniscus and articular cartilage and injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

  • Hips

    • Joint degeneration in the hip causes arthritis, which results in pain and stiffness that can severely affect daily activities.

  • Shoulder

    • Common problems in the shoulder include arthritis, bone spurs, rotator cuff injury, torn cartilage, bursitis, tendonitis and dislocation.

  • Elbow

    • Tennis elbow is the most common complaint and can be treated without surgery in most occurrences.

  • Hand and Wrist

    • Routine problems of the hand and wrist include carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, arthritis, sprains or fractures, nerve compression, peripheral nerve damage, tumors or cysts, thoracic outlet syndrome and athletic injuries.

  • Foot and Ankle

    • Patients seeking treatment suffer from the following conditions: bunions, hammertoes, arthritis, tendonitis, heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, nerve damage, sports injuries, sprains and more.
  • Back and Spine

    • Problems of the spine often result from degeneration of the cervical and lumbar discs, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spinal deformity, tumors, and trauma. Patients seek treatment for sciatica, scoliosis, kyphosis, and acute and chronic cervical or lumbar pain. Spinal care is complex; low back problems can affect the leg and foot, while cervical spine, or neck problems can affect the arms and head. In addition to orthopedic surgeons, spinal conditions may also be treated by neurosurgeons and interventional radiologists, depending upon the condition.
