Alzheimer’s and Memory Care
Patients with memory problems need a place to turn to that can give them a single, centralized resource for comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services. Lancaster General Health has a team of specialists who are dedicated to meeting the needs of older adults with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders. The LG Health Alzheimer’s and Memory Care program can give patients and families answers, guidance and, most importantly, hope.
The Alzheimer’s and Memory Care team
Memory loss may be due to age, treatable conditions such as thyroid disease or depression, or Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, or other neurological disorders. At LG Health, a multidisciplinary team of specialists helps patients and their families identify the cause of memory loss and cope with memory disorders. The team includes:
- Occupational Therapists
- Physical Therapists
- Social Workers
- Speech Therapists
Comprehensive personal evaluation
Anyone facing memory or cognitive thinking problems can benefit from a comprehensive evaluation. It is critical to determine the main cause in order to rule out serious problems or address them early. To that end, a care coordinator will schedule an appointment for you to meet with one or more specialists for an evaluation and to discuss your concerns. The evaluation will include a detailed medical and social history, memory and cognitive tests, and other assessments.
Personalized treatment plan
You and your family will meet with our memory care team to discuss the results of the evaluation. Our specialists will explain the possible causes of the memory problem and treatment options, which may include medications, mental exercises and activities, and ongoing support from our trained professionals.
The Alzheimer’s and Memory Care Program is conveniently located in the Neuro Center on the second floor of the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion.
