Expert Testing and Analysis

State-of-the-art technology to guide accurate diagnosis and treatment.

The Lancaster General Health Laboratory, accredited by the College of American Pathologists and the American Association of Blood Banks, offers an array of laboratory tests to help diagnose medical conditions and monitor the effectiveness of treatment.

Our professionally trained staff provides testing at locations in Lancaster, Lebanon and Chester counties, with walk-in and scheduled appointments for you convenience. Pathologists, or doctors who analyze tissues and bodily fluids, examine samples taken during testing and compare them to normal ranges.

Laboratory and Blood Testing

If your doctor orders a laboratory test (blood test or urinalysis), a technician called a phlebotomist will assist with your blood draw or provide needed equipment for the urinalysis. Your doctor will tell you if any special preparation is required for your lab test. It is important to follow the instructions carefully since they can affect your results.

Blood Tests

Blood tests can help check for certain diseases and conditions, measure how well your organs are working, and assess the effectiveness of certain treatments. Common blood tests include:

  • Complete blood count (CBC): Measures red and white blood cells, platelets, and other components of your blood
  • Basic metabolic panel: Tests blood chemistry, providing information about the health of your muscles, bones and organs
  • Lipoprotein panel, or lipid panel: Tests cholesterol to determine whether you might be at risk for heart disease
  • Coagulation panel: Tests your blood’s clotting ability
  • Blood enzyme tests: Help diagnose a heart attack

Urinalysis

Your doctor might order a urinalysis to test for early signs of disease, monitor treatments you are having, check for blood, or diagnose a urinary tract infection.

Other Tests We Offer

  • Electrocardiograms (EKGs)
  • Holter monitors
  • Pre-admission tests
