What are the benefits of an AlterG over a traditional treadmill?
The AlterG Treadmill uses NASA patented - air pressure technology that reduces as much as 80 percent of your body weight in one percent increments. The technology is designed to decrease the impact the body and minimize discomfort while walking or running in a safe environment.
Who can benefit from AlterG treadmill training?
The AlterG is for clients/patients who may be experiencing pain, weakness or balance issues. It may be used for general conditioning, overweight clients, seniors, or athletes who wish to increase training while minimizing impact on joints and muscles. AlterG is also for those recovering from neurological problems such as stroke or spinal cord injury.
Are there any restrictions or precautions that would prevent me from using the AlterG?
You should consult with your physician before beginning any exercise program; particularly if you are a smoker or have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, elevated cholesterol, or any other chronic disease or physical impairment. Pregnant women or women who may be pregnant should consult their physician before using the AlterG. This equipment is not intended for use by anyone with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacity, unless they have received supervision or instruction on the equipment by a person responsible for their safety. Clients/patients will be supervised by a Patient Care Assistant, Therapist or Therapist Assistant. Will my insurance cover these sessions?
If the treadmill training is part of a prescribed rehabilitation program requiring skilled therapy, your insurance will be preauthorized and billed.
Most insurance companies do not reimburse for exercise training. LGH offers a variety of affordable pricing packages for training access to the AlterG, which you can find here. You may submit for reimbursement individually if you feel your plan might cover this service.
Can I trial the equipment first?
Absolutely! We offer a free demonstration session so that you can be experience the benefits and determine if the equipment is right for you.
How long will the demonstration session last?
A typical demonstration appointment will last between 20 and 30 minutes. The length of time on the equipment will be up to 15 minutes with the remainder of time assisting in set up and cool down.
How long do AlterG sessions last?
Appointments are scheduled according to the packages purchased or length of your therapy session. See our pricing list for package information.
What should I wear and bring to the session?
Please bring or wear gym shorts, sweat pants, socks and athletic sneakers or shoes.
Will there be locker rooms and a shower available?
Yes, the department has both male and female locker rooms with showers available.
