If you’ve ever had the flu, you probably felt achy and sore for a couple of days. People with a condition called fibromyalgia feel that way almost every day. Fibromyalgia is a complex disorder that causes chronic pain, stiffness and muscle tenderness. It can interfere with sleep. It is often accompanied by anxiety and depression. Our fibromyalgia program is designed to give you a variety of tools to help manage fibromyalgia and reduce its impact on your life.

A Comprehensive Plan for a Complex Condition

Our specially trained clinicians and therapists evaluate the scope of your disorder. Drawing on the latest research and using the latest techniques, they tailor a comprehensive plan of care just for you. Depending what your physician requested, your treatment team may include:

  • Fibromyalgia nurse to help you manage your condition through diet, exercise, relaxation training and other lifestyle changes; referral to community resources; and interventions for any other health conditions associated with fibromyalgia
  • Physical therapist to evaluate and extend range of motion, teach pain management and manual therapy techniques and provide exercises to help enhance tolerance
  • Occupational therapist to increase level of function in activities of daily living through better body mechanics, pacing and time management, as well as adaptive equipment
  • Neuropsychologist to assess your emotional well-being and coping style, offer individual therapy to improve behavioral management, and refer to appropriate resources to address significant emotional distress

Pain Management Option

Our physicians and skilled staff offer the latest pain management solutions, including:

  • Botox to relieve spasms and pain by blocking nerve signals to muscles
  • Epidural steroid injection for patients with nerve root irritation or inflammation caused by degenerative or herniated discs
  • Facet injection to provide temporary or permanent pain relief in the joints of the spine caused by degeneration, inflammation from injury or arthritis
  • Greater occipital nerve block injection of steroids and local anesthetic to relieve pain of headaches caused by an irritation or pinching of the nerves in the back of the head
  • Radiofrequency ablation to reduce back or neck pain and related symptoms by deactivating nerves that supply the facet joints in the spine
  • Spinal cord stimulator to treat nerve pain in certain patients with an implanted device
  • Sympathetic nerve block injection to treat or diagnose chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS) or reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) following an injury
  • Trigger point injection/Myoneural block to treat muscle pain by injecting steroids and local anesthetic
  • Ultrasound-guided injections for more accurate positioning of the need and less discomfort for the patient

A Comprehensive Approach to Pain Management

Should you need additional treatment, we can help plan the next stage of your recovery, which might include:

  • Behavioral medicine such as biofeedback, clinical hypnosis or relaxation techniques
  • Physical therapy and rehabilitation
  • Surgical intervention if necessary
