Hand Therapy


Many conditions can affect the hand’s ability to function. Lancaster General Health offers a comprehensive rehabilitation program for individuals with hand and arm problems. The certified hand therapists, occupational and physical therapists, and therapy assistants in our hand therapy program are trained experts who can help you regain range of motion, strength, coordination and function.


What we treat

The hand therapy program is designed to address conditions such as:

  • Nerve compression, including carpal tunnel syndrome and thoracic outlet syndrome
  • Overuse conditions, including tennis elbow, tendonitis and repetitive motion syndrome
  • Physical trauma, including fractures, tendon lacerations, burns and crush injuries
  • Post-surgical rehab, including carpal tunnel release, fracture repair, tendon repairs and other hand surgeries


About the program

The program includes an evaluation and a treatment program tailored to meet individual needs and to optimize recovery. It may include:

  • Coordination/dexterity activities
  • Edema control
  • Job analysis
  • Joint and soft tissue mobilization; scar management
  • Pain management
  • Sensory re-education and desensitization
  • Splinting to protect the hand or to enhance motion
  • Strengthening
