Church and Clergy Focus

The Chaplaincy Care and Education Department seeks to promote wholistic care for the patients and their family members by providing for their emotional and spiritual support. Chaplains fulfill a complementary role with community clergy. Chaplains are not here to take over the religious leadership provided by the patients' clergy. Rather chaplains seek to supplement that role in any way that is needed.

One way is by connecting patients with their faith communities when the patient gives permission. When the patient provides information about their faith community, the chaplains office calls the clergy the following morning unless it is an emergency, in which case the chaplain will attempt to reach the clergy immediately. Please help facilitate this process by updating your information when there is a change of clergy members or a new phone number.

Another way that our department supplements the role of community clergy is through educational events designed to help clergy become for knowledgeable and comfortable with various health care situations. Please see Clergy Educational Events on this page for upcoming opportunities.
