Poison Safety Checklist

Poison Proof Your Kitchen

  • Do all harmful products in the cabinets have child resistant caps?

  • Do you store all household products in a hard to reach place, and not under the sink?

  • Are all harmful products stored away from food?

  • Are all potentially harmful products in their original labeled containers?

 Poison Proof Your Bathroom

  • Do aspirin and other medicines in your cabinets have child resistant closures?

  • Have you thrown out all out-of-date prescriptions?

  • Do you always give medicine only to the person for whom it is prescribed?

  • Do you keep your bathroom vanity free of harmful products?

  • Do you keep aerosol sprays in hard to reach places?

  • Do you keep beauty supplies in a safe place and not on windowsills or countertops?

Poison Proof Your Bedroom

  • Are you sure that there are no flaking paint chips on windowsills, woodwork, crib and playpen?

  • Do you keep cosmetics, perfumes and colognes out of reach of children?

Poison Proof Your Garage, Basement or Storage Area

  • Do you keep soaps, detergents and cleaners in hard to reach places?

  • Did you know that almost everything in your garage or storage area that can be swallowed is poisonous?

  • Do all the poisons (charcoal lighter, paint thinner, antifreeze, turpentine, insecticides) have child resistant caps?

  • Are all poisons stored in original containers?

  • Have you made sure that no poisons are stored in drinking glasses or soda bottles?
