Emergency Department Resuscitation

Our ED staff is dedicated to the care of trauma patients.

There is a dedicated area of the Emergency Room at Lancaster General Hospital for the resuscitation of trauma patients. This area includes state of the art equipment that is used to properly manage, resuscitate and diagnose injuries in our seriously wounded trauma patients. The doctors are notified by an alert system through the overhead PA system, announcing the arrival of a trauma patient. A team of physicians, nurses and ancillary support from the blood bank, radiology and chaplain services are there to greet the patient when they arrive in the Emergency Room. We have an overhead x-ray machine that immediately provides films to rapidly diagnose fractures or other abnormalities. Patients are rapidly diagnosed and resuscitated, and they are sent to either the operating room, the Trauma Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (TNU) or the medical/surgical unit for their injuries.
