Fire Safety

  • Only one of every three American households have actually developed and practiced a home fire escape plan.

  • While 71% of Americans have an escape plan in case of a fire, only 45% of those have practiced it.

  • Make an escape plan and practice it at least twice a year.

  • To use a fire extinguisher: Pull, Aim, Squeeze and Sweep (P.A.S.S.)

  • About two thirds of home fire deaths happen in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.

  • Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in reported home fires in half.

  • Install smoke alarms inside every room and make sure they are interconnected so that when one sounds they all sound. Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old.
