Going Home

Preparing for Discharge

Your attending physician or another staff member who is involved with your care will tell you when you can expect to be discharged. This will enable you to make arrangements to return home.

Pharmacy

Lancaster General Hospital has an in-house pharmacy on the first floor, outside the bank of elevators. They can fill any prescriptions you receive when you are discharged. This pharmacy is for patients and employees only. Your nurse can arrange for this service. Ask for the prescription orders if you prefer to have them filled by another pharmacy.

The Lifecare Pharmacy is on the third floor of the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion Building 2108 for those patients receiving treatments at either the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion or Lancaster General Health Women & Babies Hospital. Both pharmacies accept most prescription insurance plans. Some insurance policies will not reimburse medication costs, so check with your insurance provider about the details of your coverage. If you have a prescription card plan, you will be responsible for the co-payment. Co-payments cannot be included in the hospital bill.

Taking Charge of Your Health

Lancaster General Hospital offers a variety of services to help you take charge of your health. Workshops are designed to help with stress management, weight management and more. For more information, contact the Lancaster General Health Education & Wellness Center at 544-3811. A lending library is located on the second floor of the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion and a special women’s library is located on the second floor of the Lancaster General Health Women & Babies Hospital. We encourage you to use these resources as you develop a plan for healthy living.

Home Health Care

If you need home health care, our staff can help arrange services. It is your right to choose any home health care provider you wish. Lancaster General Health is affiliated with the Visiting Nurse Assocation, which provides various home care services. Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The staff can provide skilled nursing care, home IV therapy, enteral feeding and physical, occupational or speech therapies. Contact your nurse or social worker for more information.

Gratuities

Our staff does not accept gratuities. It is our pleasure to care for you.

Patient Survey

Following your discharge, you may receive a patient survey mailed to your home. Your answers and input help us to improve our services and to recognize exceptional employees. Please take the time to complete the survey and return it in the pre-paid envelope.
