Sick or injured? Know where to go.

Is that cut deep enough for stitches?

Should you take your son to the emergency room for a sprained wrist? Sometimes the impulse is to rush to the emercency room (ER), but there may be a more appropriate option.

LG Health offers a broad range of treatment facilities to meet your needs seven days a week. But to receive the best possible care, you need to make sure you're in the right place.

Primary Care Physician Office

Whenever possible, make your primary care provider your first choice, especially when you need treatment for chronic conditions or preventive care such as immunizations and check-ups.

If your primary care physician is unavailable, such as nights, weekends or holidays, and you need medical attention for a non-life-threatening problem, LG Health Express and Urgent Care are smart alternatives. No appointment is needed and most insurances are accepted.

Lancaster General Health offers a comprehensive network of primary care physicians.

Walk-in Care at LG Health Express

LG Health Express offers convenient, walk-in care at two Walmart and two GIANT Food Store locations. At these centers, LG Health certified nurse practitioners can:

  • Treat common conditions (see chart)
  • Prescribe medications
  • Give vaccinations and flu shots
  • Conduct physicals and wellness screenings

LG Health nurse practitioners bring an average of 18 years experience to their positions and are part of an LG Health family medicine practice. For more information on LG Health Express, click here.

LG Health Urgent Care

LG Health Urgent Care gives you timely access to board-certified LG Health physicians who can treat minor injuries and illnesses that aren't life-threatening, including simple fractures and sports injuries (see chart). You will usually see a doctor much sooner than at the ER, and the visit can be less costly as well. A physician assistant is also on staff to assist with your care. Convenient on-site X-ray and lab services are available for patients if additional tests are needed.

LG Health Urgent Care received a three-year accreditation from the American Academy of Urgent Care medicine, which exceeds their standard one-year accreditation — a sign of our commitment to providing high-quality care. For more information on LG Health Urgent Care, click here.

Emergency Room

Go to the ER for life-threatening injuries or serious illnesses. "If you're experiencing symptoms such as chest pain, slurred speech, dizziness or confusion, which could be signs of a heart attach, stroke or major injury, go the the ER. Most other conditions can be treated at Urgent Care," says Dr. Jasmeet Bhogal, medical Director, LG Health Urgent Care.

Lancaster General Hospital is the only accredited Level II Trauma Center in Lancaster County. For more information, click here.
