Antihistamines for Morning Sickness

Topic Overview

Certain antihistamines such as dimenhydrinate or doxylamine, taken as your doctor advises, may relieve morning sickness. Doxylamine (Unisom SleepTabs) is available over-the-counter. If one of these antihistamines alone does not relieve your morning sickness, you can try taking it with vitamin B6. Talk to your doctor about the right dose.

Do not confuse Unisom SleepTabs with Unisom SleepGels, which contain a different medicine.

If home treatment does not work for you, talk to your doctor about medicine that may help relieve your symptoms.

Common side effects of these medicines may include:

  • Drowsiness.
  • Dry mouth, nose, or throat.
  • Stomach upset.
