When a mid-July air-conditioning malfunction temporarily closed Lancaster General Hospital’s 28 operating rooms, staff members worked around the clock to prepare the ORs to reopen as quickly as possible, all while keeping patients safe.
Those extraordinary efforts included a long list of physician “all-stars,” who went above and beyond to help in the hours and days following the unexpected and complex event.
Physicians’ contributions ranged from regularly checking in to offer expertise to rearranging schedules to accommodate postponed surgeries. Several worked alongside staff to clean out the ORs, and one bought 10 pizzas for staff members who worked overtime without taking a break to eat.
