From Jan Bergen, President & CEO
As we near the end of 2017 -- the second full year of LG Health’s membership in Penn Medicine -- it’s gratifying to reflect on all we have achieved together.
In the last year, we have made significant progress in aligning our efforts to better serve our patients both here in Lancaster and in Philadelphia.
2017 brought notable achievements in three key areas:
Clinical advancement. Our clinical efforts have focused on aligning our service lines, especially Cardiovascular and Cancer. We are working together to standardize care with mutual adoption of treatment protocols. We offer increased convenience for local patients through telemedicine consults with Penn specialists. And we are drawing on our shared strengths to co-recruit cardiac and microvascular breast reconstruction surgeons, as well as other highly specialized physicians.
System efficiencies and cost savings. These successes aren’t so easy to see, but they are vitally important. By managing our debt more efficiently, we have freed up funding for current and future capital projects, including the LGH expansion, our behavioral health hospital and growth of our ambulatory network. By consolidating existing contracts and services, we have achieved considerable cost savings, which enables us all to work smarter.
Cultural integration. In 2017, a high-profile promotional campaign introduced the co-branded LG Health/Penn Medicine logo and identity to the local community. Our additional efforts to develop a unified presence for both employees and patients include creating consistent policies for financial assistance and employee transfers within Penn Medicine entities.
These are just a few examples of how LG Health is working with our colleagues throughout Penn Medicine to provide our patients with seamless access to world-class care from the very best physicians, along with the latest technology and research. We are truly stronger together.
As rewarding as it is to look back on 2017’s milestones in our integration with Penn, it’s even more exciting to think about what lies ahead for the coming year. I look forward to sharing more of these developments with you as 2018 begins.
