Dr. Chris Putney (far left), along with friends and family, visited children at LGH on Christmas Eve.
Chris Putney, M.D., Managing Physician at LG Health Physicians Family Medicine Strasburg, brought holiday cheer to young patients at LGH on Christmas Eve.
For the past 13 years, Dr. Putney has dressed as a reindeer or elf and visited the hospital with friends and family. The group hands out presents to children in the Emergency Department and Pediatric Unit.
The group, as well as patients and staff, purchase the gifts, which are wrapped by a nurse at Strasburg. One patient donates 10 to 15 homemade teddy bears.
The costumed group hands out gifts to children and their siblings, leaving some for kids who are admitted in the days following Christmas.
“Everyone looks forward to it and enjoys bringing some joy to kids who are sick and have to spend the holiday in the ER or admitted,” Dr. Putney said.

Family Medicine New Holland celebrates 40th anniversary
The staff at LG Health Physicians Family Medicine New Holland recently celebrated the practice’s 40th anniversary.
LG Health Physicians Family Medicine New Holland recently marked its 40th anniversary with a staff luncheon.
Drs. James B. Albrecht and Robert P. Johnson started the practice in 1976, just after completing Lancaster General Hospital’s Family Medicine Residency program. Dr. Johnson calls it the “smartest dumb decision” he ever made.
Drs. Albrecht and Johnson were excited by the opportunity to practice medicine in a newly constructed family health center. It was admittedly risky, since they had no patients, but it all worked out.
Since then the building has undergone three renovations, including a major one in 2012, which added six exams rooms. Today the practice has grown to four physicians, two advanced practice providers and 27 employees.
“It is vastly different than when we started, both inside and out,” said Dr. Johnson, who along with Dr. Albrecht is now retired. “Medicine has become more complex, but the people are the same.
“New Holland is and has always been a wonderful place to be a family doctor.”
