From Jan Bergen, President & CEO

As we celebrate the 125th anniversary of Lancaster General Hospital, I am often struck by the extraordinary vision of our founders. Our health system’s success today is a tribute to their brave willingness to look far beyond our humble beginnings in a North Queen Street row home.

Lancaster General Health’s goals for the new fiscal year reflect that same optimism and ambitious approach to plotting the future. This year’s new goals once again align with our five dimensions of performance: People, Finance, Quality, Experience and Access.

This column briefly introduces our new goals. You will find much more information about each goal, including updates on our progress, on StarNet.

  • People: Improve employee retention and reduce turnover. We owe our success to the hard work, dedication and loyalty of our employees. In the year ahead, we will look at opportunities to enhance your compensation, benefits, development and professional well-being.

  • Finance: Achieve operating margin. We will work to grow and optimize revenue, as well as eliminate waste and reduce cost of care when possible. A healthy operating margin is required to meet our five-year strategic plan and vision.

  • Quality: Reduce 30-day readmission rates. Through our culture of continuous improvement, we will reduce infections, complications and other factors that contribute to readmissions. This important work will improve patient outcomes and lead us to become consistent and reliable in our performance.

  • Experience: Increase Likelihood to Recommend scores. LG Health aims to deliver an extraordinary experience to every patient, every time. Patients who have a positive experience with us are more likely to return for future care and recommend us to others.

  • Access: Increase managed lives. “Managed lives” reflects the number of patients under the care of LG Health Physicians primary-care providers. Growing this number will enable us to provide more coordinated care, to build greater loyalty and to drive optimal outcomes.

In this milestone year for LG Health, it seems especially appropriate to reflect on our past successes as we envision the exciting possibilities of the future. With your support, I am confident that we will achieve our new goals and continue to serve our community for many years to come.
