Each quarter, the Penn Medicine CAREs Grant program invites LG Health employees and Medical & Dental Staff members to apply for grants on behalf of a not-for-profit organization for which they volunteer.
Penn Medicine CAREs was established to offer institutional support to individuals and programs in the form of grants that can be used for the purchase of supplies and resources needed to perform work in the community.
LG Health providers who received grants for the fall quarter included:

  • Frederick C. Beyer III, M.D., Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Physicians Surgical Group, for surgical and ob-gyn care in Tanzania

  • Vinesh J. Dedhia, M.D., LG Health Physicians Hospitalists, for a medical ESL program

  • Eileen P. Sosa, CRNP, LG Health Physicians Care Connections, for Outreach Paraguay

Auscultation Brass to play holiday concerts

Auscultation Brass will celebrate the season by playing three holiday concerts.
The 12-member brass band of (mostly) physicians formed around the lunch table in the LGH doctors’ dining room in 1985. Group members represent a wide range of medical specialties.
Auscultation Brass will play at the Hospice & Community Care tree-lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, and at Highland Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16. Both events are open to the public. 
The band also will play for the Stroke Survivors Club’s Holiday Party Dec. 6, at the Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital, which is a private event.
Group members include Dr. Rolf Andersen (trumpet), Dr. Tom Andersen (tuba), Dr. Robert Belser Jr. (trumpet), Dr. Robert Belser Sr. (trumpet), Dr. Joe Breslin (euphonium), Dr. Daniel Diehl (trumpet), Dr. Bill Lovett (French horn), Dr. Andrew Lutzkanin (trumpet), Dr. S. Scott Paist III (trombone), Dr. William Roberts (trumpet/French horn), Gerald Rothacker Jr., M.D., (trombone), and Kirby Strohmaier, RN (French horn).

Physicians featured in media interviews

Christopher J. Putney, M.D., LG Health Physicians Family Medicine Strasburg, was featured in a WGAL story on his longtime holiday tradition of giving gifts to pediatric patients at Lancaster General Hospital. Read more about Dr. Putney’s annual Christmas Eve visits here.

Leon S. Kraybill, M.D., Lancaster General Hospital Chief of Geriatrics, offered a “prescription” for healthy aging in an LNP special feature on centenarians.
